Lijia Ma's team at Westlake University discovered that the transpeptidase sortase binds nucleic acid molecules and mediates cell labeling with nucleic acids

On April 5, 2024, Lijia Ma(the Founder of Westlake Genetech and researcher at the School of Life Sciences, Westlake University), along with team members, published a research paper titled "The transpeptidase sortase A binds nucleic acids and mediates mammalian cell labeling" in Advanced Science. It is the first time that the in vitro expressed-sortase protein has been found to interact with both nucleic acids and mammalian cell surfaces, expanding our understanding of the potential biological functions of sortase in gram-positive bacteria and the application scope of sortase as a tool protein.
