On February 21, 2024, members of the Westlake Genetech R&D team were invited to publish a preview titled "A top variant identification pipeline for protein engineering" in Cell Systems. The preview focuses on the theme of machine learning-assisted directed evolution for protein engineering, illustrating the advantages of combining experimental and computational methods using CRISPR-Cas enzymes as an example and pointing out the current challenges faced. We believe that with the development of computational biology and artificial intelligence technology, more innovative methods will be proposed and applied in protein engineering for more precise and efficient protein design.
